Making dog treats doesn't have to be complicated! While I admire folks who whip up gourmet goodies for their furry friends, I'm more of a "simple and sustainable" chef. Like most dog owners, I juggle a busy life, so my go-to treat recipe is quick, budget-friendly, and uses wholesome ingredients.
My mission is to create healthy, homemade dog food that's manageable in the long run. That means no fancy ingredients or hours spent in the kitchen. These low-calorie dog biscuit treats are the perfect example: easy on the wallet, easy on the time, and easy on my pups' waistlines! Plus, I don't have to worry about well-meaning guests giving them extra "snacks" from the cookie jar.
Simple Dog Biscuit Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon each of cinnamon and turmeric
- 2 large eggs
Directions
Step 1: Mix it up!
- Combine flour, eggs, and water - that's the base!
- For an extra nutritional boost, add a sprinkle of turmeric (my pups love it!).
- Stir everything together until you get a smooth dough ball.
Step 2: Shape and bake!
- Roll out the dough and cut into squares (a knife works fine) or use fun shapes with cookie cutters.
- Pop them on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes for a softer treat.
Step 3: Crunchy goodness (optional)!
- Want them extra crunchy and long-lasting? Lower the heat to 200°F and bake for another 10 minutes. This dries them out for longer storage.
Step 4: Treat time!
- Let the treats cool (as much as your dog allows!).
- Enjoy the happy tail wags as you reward your furry friend.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Recipe Tweaks:
- Substitute some flour with rolled oats for a chewier texture.
- Get creative with shapes! Use dog bone cutters or even write your pup's name.
- Make a bigger batch and freeze some treats for later.
Remember, always check with your vet before introducing new foods to your dog.

- One-pan wonder: For a rustic touch, bake the entire rolled-out dough and break it into bite-sized pieces after cooling.

- Cooling tricks: Let the treats cool completely before storing, but be aware of eager pups trying to sneak a taste!
